Southampton is a bustling port city on England’s south coast in Hampshire. It is well-known for its rich maritime history, famously including the tragic departure of the Titanic in 1912. Today, Southampton is forging a path towards a sustainable future, driven by the ambitious goals set by the Southampton City Council. In 2019, the council declared a climate emergency, along with many other local authorities across the country, and committed to making Southampton a net-zero carbon city by 2035. Their mission includes promoting greener transportation options, including electric vehicles and bicycles, establishing clean air zones, boosting recycling efforts and introducing more green spaces.
By switching to green energy and harnessing the sun’s power, residents and businesses can significantly reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to Southampton’s sustainability goals. Solar panel installation offers many benefits to homeowners and businesses in Southampton. They generate clean, renewable energy, reducing dependence on the grid and ultimately lowering energy bills. Plus, with the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), homeowners can earn money by selling any excess energy back to the National Grid.

What are solar panels?
There are two different types of solar Panels: solar thermal and solar PV.
Solar thermal systems are for heating hot water only, and you require a hot water tank to store this.
Meanwhile, solar PV is a technology that converts sunlight into DC electricity. When connected through an inverter, solar energy is converted into AC that can be used in the home to reduce energy usage.
When paired with solar batteries, our solar panel and battery storage systems can reduce your home’s energy consumption from the national grid by up to 70%!
How does a solar panel system work for the home?
Solar panels take the sun’s solar energy and convert it to DC electricity. We then take this energy and convert it to AC electricity through an inverter, which can be utilised in our homes and businesses.
We can combine solar installation with a solar battery and set the system up so that it effectively monitors the consumption of the property. The battery will charge when there is more solar power than the property consumes and discharge when the demand from the property increases.
A second function of a battery would be to charge the grid using cheap utility rates at nighttime when the demand on the grid is less. This is particularly useful in the winter when less solar energy is available.
