We are Going Green, residential solar panel installation specialists
Going Green Renewables should be your first choice for solar panel installation. We are MCS-accredited solar panel installers and, Napit Registered and members of the RECC, so you can be sure of a safe and timely installation that complies with all current regulations.
We have over 14 years of experience installing solar panels and renewable energy systems on domestic and commercial buildings, on pitched or flat roofs, and on ground mounts.
When solar PV panels are paired with a battery storage installation, we can help you cut electricity costs and use your own green power instead. With over 250,000 solar panels installed, we have a wealth of experience. We have worked with all types and manufacturers of solar panels and inverter systems, helping thousands of customers generate their own electricity and reduce their energy costs.

What are solar panels?
There are two different types of solar Panels: solar thermal and solar PV.
Solar thermal systems are for heating hot water only, and you require a hot water tank to store this.
Meanwhile, solar PV is a technology that converts sunlight into DC electricity. When connected through an inverter, solar energy is converted into AC that can be used in the home to reduce energy usage.
When paired with solar batteries, our solar panel and battery storage systems can reduce your home’s energy consumption from the national grid by up to 70%!
How does a solar panel system work for the home?
Solar panels take the sun’s solar energy and convert it to DC electricity. We then take this energy and convert it to AC electricity through an inverter, which can be utilised in our homes and businesses.
We can combine solar installation with a solar battery and set the system up so that it effectively monitors the consumption of the property. The battery will charge when there is more solar power than the property consumes and discharge when the demand from the property increases.
A second function of a battery would be to charge the grid using cheap utility rates at nighttime when the demand on the grid is less. This is particularly useful in the winter when less solar energy is available.
Our solar panel installation process for homes
At Going Green Renewables, we have a straightforward and transparent approach to our installation process. From the moment you get in touch, one of our solar panel installers will be available to guide you throughout the journey.
Here’s how we’ll help you find and install the best solar system for your home:
- Assessing your needs – We will take a look at your property and your energy consumption, and based on that, we will recommend the most suitable solar panels and batteries.
- Comprehensive quote – We will provide a quote with a breakdown of installation costs and itemised pricing for solar panels, inverter, battery and labour costs.
- Getting permission – Upon accepting the quote, we will apply for permission from the DNO to connect the system to the electricity network prior to starting your solar installation.
- Time to install – Our solar installations are typically completed within two days for domestic fittings, although this can be longer for commercial buildings with larger systems.
- Over to you – Upon satisfactory completion, we will hand over the solar installation to you, giving you access to monitoring and an explanation of the components. You’ll also gain access to a modern app to manage the system yourself.
- Finishing up the paperwork – After installation, we will complete all the required paperwork so you can set up export payments with your supplier.
Frequently asked questions about solar panel installation
Is solar PV the same as solar panels?
Solar PV panels are a type of solar panel. They all take solar power and convert it into renewable energy, but they do this in different ways. Solar thermal converts sunlight into heat energy, and solar PV panels convert it into electrical energy.
Both types of solar panels have their merits, but when installing solar PV, the electrical energy can be used for more than just domestic hot water. It can be used to charge a car, run the home during a power cut, reduce electrical consumption, and heat the hot water for your home.
Do you need planning permission to install solar panels in your home?
Solar panel installations have permitted development rights with certain conditions.
They must be no more than 200mm above the roof surface and cannot be installed on the grounds of a listed building or a World Heritage site.
If the panels are installed on a flat roof, they must be lower than 600mm above the roof surface, but typically, mounting kits are designed to conform to these regulations.
How much does it cost to install solar panels?
The cost of solar PV installation can vary depending on the number of solar panels installed and the size of the batteries required for the property. However, the payback for a solar PV system on a property with a high electrical load can be as little as two years.
If the property’s electrical system isn’t modern or has limited capacity, there can be extra costs for items such as a consumer unit upgrade, but we would assess this with a site visit and advise accordingly.
How long does installing solar panels take?
For domestic purposes, an installation on-site typically takes two days. This could be less or more, depending on the size of the system and any complexities with the installation. Commercial projects can take longer as they typically have larger roofs and higher electrical demand, meaning a much larger installation is required.
Do you work with government grants for solar panels?
We don’t currently work with government grants; however, all the solar panel systems we install are eligible for the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) as long as you have a smart meter installed.
